Political career : In his early years , nitish kumar was associated with jayaprakash naarayan , ram moanohar lohia , sn Sinha , karpuri thakur and vp singh . during 1974 to 1977 he participated in jp movement and joined Janata party led by stayendra narain Sinha.He briefly served as the union minister for railways , minister for surface transport and the minister for agriculture . after the gaisal train crash he resigned as the union minister of railways . during his tenure as the union minister of railways he brought the widespread reforms including internal ticket booking facility ( 2002) and tatkal scheme for instant boking of tickets.Nitish kumar in 2004 contested in Lok Sabha elections and won from Nalanda and lost from barh.In march 2000 he first time elected as chief minister of Bihar and in nov 2010 he was again elected as chief minister of bihar and in may 2014 he resigned from chief minister post after his party performed poorly in 2014 Lok Sabha elections and took moral responsibility od the party’s performance . in 2015 again he became the CM of bihar and in july 26 2017 he resigned from the CM post and joined the principal opposition the NDA . he again became the chief minister of bihar and serves to date on his post.
